Here are a selection of quotes from people about why they would vote for me. I hope you find them useful in understand more about what I can bring to the debate should I be elected.
“I am delighted that Deputy Rhian Tooley is standing for re-election as a States Deputy in 2020. As the Non –Voting Member of the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture I have had the privilege of serving alongside Deputy Tooley and know her to be one of the hardest working and best informed of all the deputies in the outgoing States. Always well prepared and always fully informed about all the issues we confront, Deputy Tooley brings unique professional experience to all aspects of Education in Guernsey. She is passionate in her defence of those less fortunate and privileged within our society and works immensely hard on behalf of her constituents. In the face of the ongoing pandemic and the need to rebuild our economy and community, Deputy Tooley’s experience, knowledge and compassion will be invaluable in the next Government. I commend her to all of Guernsey’s electors.”
Professor Richard Conder Deputy (2012-2016; Non-States Member 2018-2020
‘As a former States’ Deputy and as a current non-voting member of the Committee for Employment and Social Security I have been impressed with Rhian’s thoughtful and well balanced approach to the more tricky areas of this Island’s administration. She is a clear thinker and speaks with assuredness. She is no fence sitter and is bold in her beliefs. Rhian sits on Health and Education and by virtue of that fact must be classed as a hard worker. This Island will need more Deputies like Rhian especially over the next four years. I have no hesitation in commending her to the public.’ Andrew Le Lievre
Member of the States of Guernsey 2008 – 2016
Rhian is a real “doer” she rolls up her sleeves and gets stuck into Committee work. she has been on two major Committees this term, Education Sport & Culture and Health and Social Care (HSC), as President of ESS I have worked very closely with her on cross committee policies. In particular I am proud that ESS and HSC worked together to introduce free contraception for under 21’s this political term, already making a significant impact on our community and reducing teenage pregnancy, Rhian was a key part of that work.
I always listen with eager anticipation to her in the debating chamber, she responds to debate with informative, insightful and heartfelt words, she is not afraid to challenge and she is concise! I do believe that our female deputies have contributed significantly this political term. We also need to keep some continuity, as we have some very difficult decisions to make on fiscal and economic policy.
I ask you to support Rhian and give her your vote.
Michele Le Clerc, Deputy for St Peter Port North
President of the Committee for Employment and Social Security
"Over the past four years Deputy Rhian Tooley and I have sometimes found ourselves on opposite sides of political issues, but I have always respected her integrity and sincerity as well as her ability to argue her case so well in the States assembly. Working closely with her these past two years or so as members of the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture, I have seen at first hand that as a mother of five children in States schools she has a passionate and highly intelligent determination to bring about an improvement in the educational experience of all the island’s children and young people. She will certainly receive one of my votes."
Richard Graham, Deputy for Castel
Vice President of the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture
“I first met Rhian when I was an inpatient. I found myself trapped in a hospital bed not knowing what was happening with my treatment and care and plans going forward and endless delays. Rhian’s efficiency with hearing my concerns and the challenges being faced meant that she was able to help me to put a rapid plan of action in place which allowed the situation to move forwards in my care and support and made a huge difference at a difficult time. Rhian also has helped understand the concerns and issues I’ve faced and has done her utmost to make changes happen where possible. Rhian has listened effectively, acknowledged my concerns, been trustworthy, confidential and non-judgemental and been determined for change to happen in these situations – which is so important for our island today”
